The purpose of background checks is to ensure the safety of our students. A background check is required if there is any possibility that you will be alone with a student. However, if you are volunteering for a one-time event and are absolutely certain you will be with another adult at all times, this may be permitted at the principal's discretion. The guarantee of being present with another adult is not a long-term solution, however.

The purpose of background checks is to ensure the safety of our students. If there is any possibility that you will be alone with a student, a background check is required. If you have a question as to whether or not you need a fingerprint background check, please contact your building principal.

Your complete arrest record, including both state and federal details, is shared with Human Resources via the MACHS criminal background check. However, this information is not disclosed at the building level. Schools will only be provided a list of individuals who can serve as volunteers for their building.

The district does not receive a copy of your actual fingerprint.

A background check is not required for room parent duties, such as supervising classroom parties. However, one is necessary if there is any chance you may be left alone or out of a teacher's sight with a child (e.g., working one-on-one with a child in a hallway or an alcove).

We cannot accept background checks done outside of Rockwood as those systems do not share (which is to protect your personal information). We only have access to checks done through MACHS utilizing our district code (1838).

Only once for the duration of your time volunteering in Rockwood. However, you will need to fill out a quick form annually so we know you are still volunteering.
